Kids Mental Health Pierce County (KMHPC) is dedicated to developing a coordinated, responsive behavioral health system that serves the needs of children, youth, and families at the right time, in the best place, with the best outcomes for them. To help drive this we understand the importance of providing education and resources to the community about existing services and resources and being present in the community to understand critical and impending needs for the pediatric behavioral health continuum in Pierce County. The KMHPC is available to provide community education and support or assist as a connector to specific training topics. Current topics include:
- Pierce County Youth Behavioral Health System Overview
- Pierce County Youth Mobile Crisis Services
- The use of a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to address complex behavioral health needs.

Youth or Teen Mental Health First Aid
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) has been working hard to address this gap in services and now have a few different options for parents of teens. Please see the information below about a couple of programs and share with your families and networks.
Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in youth. 1 in 5 teens and young adults live with a mental health condition and MHFA shows how to best support those teens and young adults. MHFA is great for teachers, school staff, coaches, parents, and any adult who works with youth. Attend a MHFA training and learn how to decrease mental health stigma, connect an individual struggling with help, and how to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis. Behavior Bridges Caregiver Consultation & Training
Behavior Bridges is able to offer a variety of workshops and training geared toward preventing behavioral health crises for neurodiverse communities. Caregiver and provider training can be coordinated on a variety of related topics, many of which are available free of charge. Some topics that are regularly offered include:
- Preventing & Responding to Challenging Behaviors
- Supporting & Normalizing Neurodiversity
- Setting Up Successful Environments
- Additional topics as requested by the community*
(These services are supported by funding from Pierce County through its Behavioral Health Department)
*Workshops available for free must meet criteria under available funding.
