Family Initiated Treatment (FIT) school-based toolkit
designed to help educators, providers, and families better understand and navigate youth behavioral health needs.
FIT allows parents or guardians to initiate behavioral health treatment for youth ages 13–17 when additional support is needed. This toolkit provides clear guidance on how school staff can recognize signs of concern, guide families to appropriate resources, and collaborate with behavioral health providers without initiating FIT themselves.
By offering practical tools, communication strategies, and referral pathways, the FIT toolkit promotes early intervention and strengthens connections between schools, families, and behavioral health systems.
This resource supports anyone working to ensure youth receive timely, appropriate care and helps schools foster collaborative partnerships with families and providers. For more information about Family Initiated Treatment (FIT) and other youth behavioral health resources, visit the FIT webpage and the Prenatal, child, youth, and young adult behavioral health webpage.
